About Victoria
Also known as Rabat, Victoria is Gozo’s central town, with the Citadel rising above it. Consider it for a town-based experience of life on Gozo.
The Citadel rises above Victoria and gives a first visit to Gozo a clear starting point. The official tourism information describes an enclosed historic settlement with a cathedral, small museums, a visitor centre and ramparts. It is a place to explore in layers: first understand the layout, then choose the interiors that interest you. A view across the island can make later destinations easier to place. You do not need to enter every museum to have a satisfying visit, especially on a short island day.
Reasons to explore
- A central base for exploring Gozo
- Historic streets around the Citadel
Things to consider
- A town setting rather than a beachfront location
- Frequent Malta travel requires planning
